DIY Character Cards And Charts
1. Make a new photoshop blank document
2. Create a text box with the dimensions you want for your character card
3. Clone the character card as many times as you can [or want to] to fill a page
4. Print out the page with however many copies you want or need
5. Draw out a sketch of your characters
6. Flip the image over and then trace it on a new sheet in ink
7. Color the characters in with base color and any shading
8. Add any line art shading to the characters
9. Scan the finished picture into your computer
10. Open the scanned picture in photoshop
11. Turn off visibility of the picture’s layer
12. Use the crop tool to extend the borders of your document to the desired dimensions
13. Create a single-color background with the desired shade
14. Create boxes of various values to define where you’ll be putting text
15. Create borders and/or a title color box to highlight its text
16. Add a texture to the background if you wish
17. Create an overall black border for the document
18. Add your name and date at the top
19. Type in the title of the name of this character group and/or chart
20. Make sure in your settings that extras are turned on
21. Turn on visibility for the picture’s layer
22. Go into selective color to darken blacks on the picture
23. Boost the contrast high enough to emphasize the colors
24. Darken the image just slightly to bring in the faded colors
25. Paint over any smudges or use the spot healing brush tool
26. Delete the white background around the boxes
27. Select only the borders around each of the character boxes
28. Add a thick black stroke on top of it to reinforce the black border around them
29. Marquee each individual box one at a time
30. Copy each box out onto their own layer
31. Move them or copy them as you please
32. Keep in mind that holding shift will allow you to move an item evenly
33. Photoshop’s extras features should tell you when things are spaced evenly
34. Create smaller black dividers to separate characters and pictures if you wish
35. Create one text box and type a character’s information
36. Clone that text box, move it down, line it up, and then delete the text
37. Type the next character’s information in that text box
38. Repeat that process until each character has their own text box
